Obituary for John J. Sherlock

John J.  Sherlock
John J. Sherlock, 94, of White Plains and Somers, NY died May 14, 2017. He was born January 14, 1923 in White Plains to John J. and Catherine Sherlock. On February 3, 1951 John married Angela (Viola), who has predeceased him. He was educated at St. John’s Elementary School and graduated from White Plains High School (Class of 1940). John attended Iona, Fordam, and Hamilton College before graduating Syracuse Law School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps/Signal Corps for 3 years. John worked as an attorney for 30 years in the NYS Court System. He was also an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Law for 20 years, and worked in private practice for 55 years.

John was a member of the Union Hook and Ladder White Plains Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years. He was one of the founders of The Bernies Football program which he enjoyed coaching for many years. John and his family spent many summers in Harvey Cedars, NJ where wonderful memories were made.

John, forever and most importantly, was the family man. He will be remembered for his insight of the law and as a friend and confidant to all who knew him. His wisdom will be forever cherished.

John is survived by his children: Tara Sherlock of Mt. Vernon, NY, John J. Sherlock of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, Caitlin Hall of Mt. Kisco, NY, Robert Sherlock of Riverhead, NY, and Matt Sherlock (Heidi) of Westminster, MD. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Hannah, Marian, Matthew, and Erin Sherlock, and Jillian Parry-Davis (Jason), his great-grandchild Violet Marie Davis, and his niece Ret. Lt. Commander Barbara Sherlock and her children Courtney and Ilana Sherlock-Black of Center Hall, PA.

A visiting will take place Wednesday 4-8PM, with a Mass of Christian Burial Thursday 11:00AM at St. Bernard’s Church in White Plains. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Bernies Football Program at 69 Heatherbloom Rd. White Plains, NY 10605.
