Our beloved mother, Bernadine Simone, a White Plains resident, died April 25, 2020 at the age of 93. She was born April 24, 1927 in Grand Rapids, MI. to the late John and Anna Wechgelaer.

In February of 1952 she married John M. Simone Jr. He predeceased her in 2015.

She is survived by her children; John F. Simone of White Plains, NY, Beverly C. Simone of West Nyack, NY, Patricia Simone of Greenwich, CT and Ronald Simone of Stamford, CT, and her grandchildren; Erica Murry, Danielle Simone, John Simone and Collin Marino. She is also survived by a brother, Martin Wechgelaer and sister, Mary Elizabeth Bowe. Bernadine is predeceased by her brothers, John Wechgelaer and Richard Wechgelaer and a sister, Antoinette Faulkner.

She was a wonderful, loving and giving mother, grandmother and sister, who always put her loved ones before herself. With an amazing zest for life, she survived many surgeries, beating all odds, until contracting COVID-19. She passed away one day after her 93rd birthday. Her boundless love and caring ways endeared her to all who knew her. We were blessed to have her in our lives for as long as we did. She will always be with us in our hearts and in spirit.

I can't express how sorry I am that you lost your beautiful Mom. She was my surrogate mom - I've known Betty since I was 15 and will always remember her sitting on the couch in Brigantine, reading her book and eating a whole box of fudge as we walked in the door at 2:00am! She treated everyone with love and welcomed all into her home. Beautiful person inside and out and will keep the memory of her in my heart.

There are no words to express how sorry I am about your mom. My heartfelt condolences are with your family and I hope you will find the peace and comfort that you need to get through this difficult time of sorrow. Your mom was an extraordinary woman who gave of herself so unselfishly and I am very blessed to have had her in my life. One of the greatest things that I’ve always loved about Betty is the fact that she treated everyone like family. She gave me so much more than a welcoming place in her home, she gave me a place in her heart I will always remember the special times we spent together and will forever cherish those beautiful memories. It was an honor to have been loved by her and I will miss her immensely. You are in my prayers - Mary Sassone

My sincerest condolences to everyone in your family. I miss her laughter and good nature already. She always welcomed me into her home, and I was blessed to have know her. She was a fighter, and beat the odds many times, but was finally called upon to be with her beloved husband. I will always remember her wonderful personality, and beautiful sense of humor. She was truly loved by all and will be sorely missed.
