Obituary

Obituary for Dacia Elaine Britton

On Monday, April 27, 2020, Dacia Elaine Britton, loving sister and aunt, passed away due to complications from COVID-19 at the age of 79. Dacia was born on September 20, 1940 in Kingston, Jamaica and moved to the states in her early twenties. Fueled by her dedication to helping others, she spent over 40 years working as a nurse at White Plains Hospital in New York. Her family was her greatest source of pride and she possessed unwavering love and interminable energy to always going above and beyond for each and every one of them. Dacia lived out each day to the fullest, never slowing down, and her infectious smile and compassionate spirit touched all those who knew her. Upon her retirement from nursing, she immersed herself in other lifelong passions including singing, needle point, cooking and the arts. Dacia is survived by her four sisters - Dorothy Bagby, Fay Brown, Elizabeth Prince, Marcia Grayson and brother-in-law, Douglas Grayson; two brothers - Audley Brown and Everton Brown; Nieces and nephews - Paul Scotman, niece-in-law, Rose Scotman, Debbie Nathan, Ryan Nathan, Marja Brown, Paul Scotman Jr., Ann Marie Brown, Gary Pace, Michael Scotman, Doug Grayson Jr., Allie Grayson, Matthew Scotman, Kali Scotman, Jordan Grayson and Jackson N athan. I n lieu of flowers, you can make a contribution to Metropolitan Opera Memorial Gift ( metopera.org/support/make-a-gift/ ), Broadway Bridges ( broadwaybridges.org ) and/or American Cancer Society ( donate3.cancer.org ).

I met Dacia when she joined Hudson Valley Singers. We usually sat together in the Soprano section. She had a very good voice and sense of humor. I also knew she was a nurse at WP Hospital. I will miss her.

As an RN Dacia was a role model to other nurses. She gave unparalleled nursing care to my mother many many years ago who was a patient of hers at White Plains Hospital. As a nurse myself I was impressed by her delivery of physical emotional and spiritual care to meet the needs of her patients in a calm unhurried manner. She was dedicated and steadfast in her commitment to her chosen profession. Her infectious smile, her ladylike demeanour and her outstanding character were exemplary.May she RIP
