Dominick “Dom” Barzelatto
On Thursday December 31st, as the year came to an end, we lost our dad.
Dom was born July 20, 1937 to Dominic and Sylvia (Berretti) Barzelatto. Dom was one of four siblings his sisters Amelia, Meem, and Joann all born and raised in the Bronx on East 232nd street. After graduating high school from PS16, he served in the United States Army before coming home to help his parents during their time of despair. He was an exceptional son who took care of his family and worked extremely hard to make sure they were safe, well and taken care of. The sun rose for his parents when he walked through the door of his childhood home that his parents resided in for almost thirty years. Dad worked as a mechanic with his father-in-law Henry Parlato for many years. Later, owning and operating alongside with his brother-in-law Ronald, R. Parlato Heating & Air, and Ron-DEE Fuel Oil in New Rochelle, NY. Dad was a man of many talents. He then became a builder constructing homes as a crafted carpenter (like his dad) and built custom homes in Westchester County.
Dad loved cars, car shows boating, fishing, golf, and had an impeccable palate for good food (this truly runs in the family). Dad loved his community as he was a member of the New Rochelle Lion’s Club, American Legion Post 8, in New Rochelle, NY and the Rockland Lodge Order of The Sons of Italy in Rockland County. He loved his Sunday mornings at the club with all his many friends, he left exceedingly early on Sunday mornings to make sure there were plenty of donuts to be had by all!!! He especially loved the St. Patrick’s Day feast at the club, as he cooked hundreds of corned beef dinner meals and was so proud to do it. Nothing made him happier than to give a helping hand to anyone in need (you could always count on Dom).
His true passion was his family, sons, daughter, grandchildren, and great grandson who he loved and cherished. Dom is remembered with love by his first wife Linda and their children, Dominick, Richard (Susan), Laurie (Salvatore), and Craig (Liz). Dom adored his grandchildren Anthony, Sophia, Samantha, Shelby, Stefano, Joseph, Cassandra, Jessica, Nick, Ricky, Allie, Stephen, Lauren, Thomas, Tara, Marissa, Daniel, Melanie, and his great grandson Hunter. His niece Rhonda and Nephew Ed.
Up until the end, his positive outlook and sense of humor remained with him, his memories shared, funnies made and his abundance of love.
Though many of his proudest moments involved spent with his family, he was always happy to share stories and pictures to highlight some of his fondest memories. He always, always had a great joke to share and we would belly over in tears… his humor had no boundaries. He laughed a pure, contagious laugh, one we will remember all our lives!
Dad, we will forever adore and remember you. We will stand taller and stronger, knowing you are now watching over us, always believing. FOREVER OUR HERO.
In lieu of flowers, we ask you donate to your favorite charity in remembrance of Dominick.
