Obituary for Edward Johnson Jr.

Edward Johnson, Jr. entered this life on March 21, 1940 in Spartanburg, South Carolina and was called home in the late evening of December 18, 2019. Our dad, known to everyone as Eddie, was the oldest of nine children born to Edward, Sr. and Elizabeth Johnson.

As a child he migrated to White Plains, NY along with his younger sister, Grace, and their parents. He later graduated from White Plains High School, where he excelled in sports, gaining several county-wide awards in track and football. After high school, Eddie joined the United States Air Force.

Daddy was a very proud man; you'd know that just by the way he carried himself. But it was more than how well he dressed and his magnetic personality; it was how he spoke of his family. Whenever he'd talk about any of his family. particularly his daughters and grandchildren, he'd light up with joy.

What we'll remember most about him is that he was an avid lover of animals, boxing, and New York sports teams, so you could usually find him at home watching one of those programs on television. A memory that we'll always cherish was his love of western movies, which he regularly called "watching cowboys".

Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2 says "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens. A time to be born and a time to die." On Wednesday, December 18, 2019, Eddie went home to be with the Lord. Although we're all saddened by our father's departure, we know with the Lord's infinite wisdom, there are no mistakes.

Eddie is survived by three daughters, Kim Johnson, Yonkers, NY; Nakpangi Johnson, Boston, MA; Joi Culler (Steven), White Plains, NY; his former wife and friend, Esther Johnson-Miller, White Plains, NY; four sisters, Grace Johnson, White Plains, NY; Patricia Simpson, Atlanta, GA; Linda Nichols, Raleigh, NC; and Carrie "Bonnie" Johnson, Atlanta, GA; granddaughters and grandsons; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Eddie's beloved parents, Edward, Sr. and Elizabeth Johnson; brothers Leroy and Daniel "Rommie" Johnson: sisters Judy Lewis and Denise Johnson; and daughter, Tracey Johnson preceded him in death.

Don McLaughlin

To the Family,
My sincere condolences to the family. It is always heart felt when a member of our tribe; one of our stalwarts passes on. Eddie was an inspiration to us younger brothers who wander this wasteland, in search of our better selves. May he rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to Ed Johnson's family. I delivered Meals on Wheels to him a number of years ago. Stopping by to see him was certainly a highlight of the route. He always had a kind word for us and shared stories of his wonderful family; we would leave there with a smile! Rest in Peace, kind sir.
With prayers to you all,
Mary Broderick Ryan.
