Giovanna De Lia, 89, of the Bronx, New York, passed away on October 5, 2019. She was born on March 25, 1930 in the Bronx, New York to Nicola Attalienti and Filomena Caldarola. Giovanna married Michael De Lia on December 27, 1948. She was a customer service support specialist for Michael C. Fina, Inc. from 1977-1990, as well as a homemaker.
Giovanna is survived by her children, Edward (Antonella) De Lia of White Plains, NY, Paul (Lucia) De Lia of Croton-on-Hudson, NY, and Adriana De Lia (companion Brad Morris) of Astoria, NY; grandchildren Michael, Giovanni, Sergio, and Francesca; and her sister Adele De Ruvo of Ruvo di Puglia, Italy. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Margherita Attalienti.
Giovanna was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family dearly and never hesitated to make sacrifices for them. She was a world class cook and baker, and accomplished everything to the highest standard – in the kitchen, as a cub scout den leader, or at work - and with the utmost attention to detail, setting an example for her children. She even learned to use an iPad in her final years. Giovanna had a special devotion for Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, and was a lover of music who also introduced her children to the finer things in life, like opera and Italian culture, even though she only had an elementary school education.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Giovanna’s name to Catholic Charities USA, the American Heart Association, or the American Red Cross.
