Obituary for Gladys D. Giordano

Gladys D Giordano

“D” for “divine” but spelled differently.

A woman who loved the opera, Broadway shows, everything Italian, Sicilia (the birthplace of both her parents), cooking shows, the NY Times Sunday crossword puzzle, French Impressionist painting, reading, beautiful scarves, her two daughters and her grandson, Aidan.

She freely gave her time and attention to her children’s friends, numerous nieces and nephews, her older siblings, and many good friends and neighbors, and earned the respect and admiration of people across the spectrum of society. As a parent’s association president in the 1960’s, her sensitive and forward thinking decision making brought people together in a time of potential racial tension; working with the local school board she continued to impact her community with her wise and measured leadership. As a mother she inspired her gifted daughters to follow their dreams and achieve both high academic and artistic success, as well as career satisfaction as public school educators. Her commitment to personal standards was the benchmark against which she measured herself, her daughters, and her associates. A loving wife and partner of 45 years to Alfred, together they created a warm, safe, and welcoming home, and their mutual extended families were the grateful beneficiaries of many delicious holiday dinners and happy family celebrations.

Gladys will be remembered for her wit, wisdom, and generosity of character. She will be sorely missed, and will remain forever embedded in our hearts, souls, and minds.

Legends say the Hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for joy and celebration. The hummingbirds' delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life's sweetest creation...Anonymous

Dreadful news, Claudia. May your mother's spirit soar throughout the universe and rain down from the heaven's as stars. So, she is with you whenever you view the nighttime sky.

My Aunt Gladys lived a fulfilling life and I will always remember her bubbly personality and going to their house for Sunday dinner and feasting on all the tasty Italian dishes she cooked! I have warm memories with her and my Uncle Al, cousins Claudia and Lisa. In addition, she made a beautiful baby blanket when my son was born and despite milk stains and baby spit, I still treasure that blanket! I celebrate your life and I will truly miss you Aunt Gladys!

Love Denise, Jeremy and Erik
