Today we celebrate the life of Henry Adolphus Charles, born July 22,
1928 in Plaisance Village
,
East Coast Demerara, Guyana to Damon and Hannah (Dyegood) Charles. He was the youngest of three
children born of this union. His sister (Doris), brother (Samuel), and his eldest child Beatrice Osei-Twum (a.k.a. Barbara/Evelyn) Predeceased him. Henry, fondly known as “Papi” or “Poppi” (the
name given to him by his granddaughter Jessica) will be missed by all who knew him.
Working with his hands was Henry’s greatest passion. After Completing his formal education, he later took a correspondence course in construction engineering from Bennett College in the United
Kingdom. With hard work and dedication, he became a Master Carpenter. Henry’s employment career moved him from Guyana to St. Thomas, VI and finally to the United States in 1969. There he acquired a stellar reputation with his many clients. He loved his craft and many can attest to his artistry. Years later he became an entrepreneur Establishing Charles Carpenters and worked until the age of 78. Henry enjoyed keeping up with politics, playing cricket, dominos, watching boxing and old westerns with his son-in-law Tony. Henry married Stella (Bowry) on October 27, 1956, and is survived by their five children: Sybil, Peter, Alethea, Deborah and Martin.

Henry is also survived by his grandchildren: Kisha, Kwesi, Telika, Jessica, Thomas, Austin, Asha, Ariana, Amir and Avery as well as many
great grandchildren: Djenne Oseitwun-Parris, Zane Osei-Twun and Neriah Osei-Twun. Nieces & Nephews: Veronica, Esther, Leslie, Malcolm, Cecil, Judy, Frank, Charles, Irma, Frank, Errol, Lynette, Desmond, Desiree. and numerous other family members.

Early on December 25, 2019, Henry peacefully ascended ; His soul is now at eternal peace and rest.


Flowers are welcomed, but the family asks that donations be made out to the Alzheimer’s Disease at act.alz.org or cancer Associations in Memory of Henry A. Charles
