Obituary

Obituary for Linda P. Doherty (Peterson)

Linda Doherty (née Peterson) died peacefully at home in White Plains, NY on December 9th, 2019 with her family by her side. Born March 5th, 1943, Linda was a lifelong resident of White Plains. This month marked the 55th anniversary of her marriage to her devoted husband, Dr. Robert J. Doherty.

A graduate of White Plains High School, Linda majored in Education at the State University of New York at New Paltz. She taught 2nd grade at Battle Hill School before transitioning to an administrative position in her husband’s Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery practice. Upon her retirement, she pursued her two greatest passions: Traveling with her husband and spending time with her grandchildren.

Linda is survived by her husband Bob, her son Rob (Sabrina) Doherty, her daughter Erin (Dan Buckley) Doherty, and her sisters Nancy McDonald and Anna Ruth Kaneshiro. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Llew, Bo, and Georgette, who lovingly referred to her as Rah-Rah.

Friends and family will be gathering for a memorial and celebration of her life on Thursday, December 12th, 4-8PM at McMahon, Lyon & Harnett Funeral Home, 491 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, NY. In lieu of flowers – and in keeping with Linda’s charitable spirit – the family kindly requests donations to Jansen Hospice and Palliative Care, 670 Post Rd, Scarsdale, NY 10583.

Heather and Bob O'Donnell and Family

Linda devoted her life to others.
She knitted sweaters for the newborns of the families. She fed us Swiss Fondue at her parties. She tolerated rustic tent camping in Kettletown, Conn. She spent months of her pregnancies on bedrest to have her son and daughter.
In company, she was cheerful and lively. That hid the shy homebody inside. The students she taught appreciated her meticulous care she gave them.
She nursed her own children through heartbreak and the disappointments of the "real world" and supported her husband tirelessly throughout his career.
She made sure that those around her were nurtured, heard and loved.
So strong was her example that we will feel her touch, hear her words and see her smile for the rest of our lives.
