Luis Antonio Diaz, 94, of the Bronx, New York passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021. He was born to Leonilda (Cortes) and Juan Diaz in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. He joined the Navy at 17 years old and was enlisted for 2 years (1944-1946), where he earned a Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, and Asiatic Pacific Medal. Luis married his wife, Maria Viera Aleman, on July 8, 1950. They moved to New York and together raised 6 children and adopted their 7th child while they were foster parents for over 30 years.
Luis worked for well- known shoe companies like Nine West and Nina Shoes. After many years he became a self-employed jeweler for over 30 years. Luis is predeceased by his beloved wife Maria. Luis is survived by his seven children Brenda, Pedro Juan, Luis Antonio, John Lee, Nilda Marie, Minerva (Cookie), and “John John”. Luis is also survived by his twelve cherished grandchildren: Maria “Chickie”, Marisol Linda, Kayleen, Yvette, Janet Lee, Ray Anthony, Richard Lee, Jonathan Luis, Pedro Juan, Luis Francisco, Star Marie, and Jayda Lee. As well as his beloved thirteen Great Grandchildren: Elijah Nathaniel, Isabella Amor, Edwin Andres, Amalia Nicole, Giancarlo, Yesenia Linda, Nikolas, Sofia Lorraine, Noah Antonio, Chloe Rae, Elliana Rose, Liam Alejandro and Kaiden Luis.
Luis Antonio Diaz was a dedicated loving Husband, and a devoted family man. He was immensely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Luis loved to salsa dance and play dominoes. He had a love for animals, he had many pets including cats, dogs, and birds. Luis wanted everyone to know that they should not cry for him after he left this world, but to dance and celebrate his life. He was cared for deeply and will be missed by all.
