Manuel Valera Sr., a White Plains resident, died August 14, 2020 at the age of 90. He was born June 25, 1930 in San Nicolas, Cuba to the late Carlos and Carmelina Valera.
On January 9, 1960 he married Nora Villar. Besides his wife Nora, Manuel is survived by his children; Manuel Valera Jr. of White Plains, Charles (Donna) Valera of Mamaroneck and Julie (Valera) Burnham of Guilderland, NY, and his sister Odaly Hernandez. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Shannon (Valera) Evans, Austin Burnham, Nicole Valera, Victoria Burnham and Max Valera and 1 great grandchild, Noralee Evans. He is predeceased by 2 brothers, Giraldo and Juan Valera and a sister, Vera Alvarez.
The family mourns the death of Manuel with great sadness. He passed peacefully, surrounded by family. He came to America looking for the American Dream. Working hard to receive his masters in education, he began to work hard and was successful at obtaining the dream he envisioned for his family. He taught Spanish at Pleasantville High School for 22 yrs and never let a child fall behind. After retiring, he helped his wife Nora by helping to raise their grandchildren. They enjoyed traveling. He was a mentor to many and a loving soul to everyone.
