Obituary

Obituary for Pasquale Gabriele

Dr. Pasquale Charles Gabriele, 87, of Naples FL passed peacefully at Stamford Hospital on March 6, 2020 surrounded by family. Known as “Pat” or “PC” to friends and associates, he was born in Brooklyn on January 26th 1933 to Antonino and Sandina Gabriele. After receiving a doctorate from University of Pennsylvania in 1958 and postdoctoral training from Boston University School of Medicine in 1960, he practiced periodontics in White Plains NY for 43 years. During this time, he pioneered new treatment methods, served as adjunct professor of Dentistry at Columbia University, took leadership roles in professional societies, and endeared himself to patients and associates alike. After retiring in 2003, he moved to Naples FL where he became a beloved member of the Italian American Foundation, furthered his philanthropic activities and enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. His already rich social circle became even wider with new friends and a continued passion for physical fitness, golf, bocce, spirituality, music, art, food and just plain having a good time!

He was a man of great charisma and universally well-loved. He was also a man of great accomplishment, earning numerous awards and honors all throughout his lifetime. His bibliography includes articles and letters in the New York Journal of Dentistry, the New York State Academy of General Dentistry, New York State Dental Journal, and Periodontal Case Reports. When a humanitarian crisis emerged in Biafra in the late 1960s, he helped organize a local response. He distributed necessities to the poor through the Christmas in April program, and was actively engaged in the leadership of his parish. In 2010, he funded construction of the Antonino Gabriele Village, a housing project for the aged outside Kingston, Jamaica, and dedicated it to his father. He truly left this world a better place.

A man who loved life, he was also not afraid of death and devoted much time to the study of near-death experiences. His fascination with the topic inspired him to become a member of the International Association for Near Death Studies. While we all miss him, we also remember how he assured us he would never be out of reach.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and his brother Placido Anthony. He is survived by his sister Connie (Ken) Thom, sister-in-law Gail, his four loving children Antonino Mark, Franklin Matthew (Becky), Sandra Christine, and Mary Josephine (Jerry) Dinallo and their loving mother Marylin, his seven grandchildren Melissa, Brian, Jack, Christian, Justin, Elena, and Sofia, as well as thirteen wonderful nieces and nephews.

The family will also announce plans for a life celebration to be held in Naples FL in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Antonino Gabriele Village, c/o Jamaica Outreach Program, PO Box 110581, Naples FL 34108.
