Robert Donnelly of White Plains, New York, died on Thursday, October 3, 2019, at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. He was 72 years old.
Robert was born on December 9, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Helen and Joseph Donnelly. His brother Joseph passed away in 2001. He was a graduate of the College of Santa Fe in New Mexico and received a Masters’ Degree in Public Administration from Fordham University.
He attained a rank of Captain in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Vietnam War from 1970-1972.
After discharge from the Marines, he became a Criminal Investigator for the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. He went on to become a Senior Investigator. After his retirement, he worked for Glock, Inc. as a Regional Sales Manager.
Robert was a member of the American Legion Post 135 in White Plains. He served as Commander, Chaplain, and performed community and volunteer work on their behalf.
Robert Donnelly founded the girls’ Youth Soccer program in White Plains. He coached the girls from first grade through high school, and then continued working for the White Plains Department of Recreation as a referee for many years.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. More important, Bob was a loyal friend. His support of his buddies in good times and bad is unsurpassed.
Bob is the beloved husband of Rachel and the loving father of Allyson Hatten of Porirua, Wellington, New Zealand, and Danielle Donnelly of White Plains, New York. He adored his grandchildren, Cassidy and Sierra Hatten, Anthony Astorino and Callie Pereira. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Doug Hatten, and his sister-in-law, Mary Donnelly.

Bob will be missed by his family and friends and hundreds of soccer players both young and old. He will also be missed at the American Legion where his even handed treatment of all members was a model to follow. Bob would help with everything he could, planning, shopping and cooking. He was always there to help other Vets whenever we asked. Visiting sick and disabled friends was something Bob would do on a regular basis. This world was a better place when He was with us.
