Obituary

Obituary for Rose Selino

Rose Selino, age 91, beloved mother, nanny, aunt and friend passed peacefully on September 24, 2020.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Angelo “Gus” Selino Sr., infant child Louise, brother James Vicananza, and sisters Angelina Tucci, Jean Jay, Rose Linari, Emily Arceri, Carmela Smith, and Lucy Putnam. She is survived by her three sons Angelo (Lori) Selino Jr. of New Fairfield, CT; Frank (Christine) Selino of Danbury, CT; and Paul (Jodie) Selino of West Harrison, NY; six grandchildren - Gabrielle, Andre, Isabelle, Sophia, Jonathan and Olivia, and many cherished nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Rose was born on May 20, 1929, to Michael Angelo Furcola and Theresa Spadafora in White Plains, NY. She married the love of her life, Gus, on March 2, 1963 and shortly thereafter started a family. Rose had several jobs like rectory and high school cook and jewelry maker but her most tenured and treasured role was one of wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Rose loved cooking Sunday pasta dinners where friends and family gathered frequently around the table. She often spoke of her greatest wish to see her grandchildren born and she and Gus were blessed to watch them grow into beautiful young adults whom they were instrumental in raising and shaping.
Rose was the embodiment of a mother’s love and comfort. She was the “neighborhood mom” – a loving mother to all who needed her. She loved fiercely and opened her home and her heart freely to friends and family, no strings attached and with bowls full of food!
Rose was every bit her namesake, beautiful and sweet with hint of thorniness, she was a force to be reckoned with. Everyone knew when Rose entered a room. She made her opinions known, dispensing advice solicited or not, standing up for those in need and never backing down from a challenge. She fought for the people she loved and the things she believed in. She was honest, bold, witty and tough. She enjoyed spending time at Moose Lodge 294 poker games and bocce matches, keeping up with the best of them and usually sweeping up more wins than losses!
Rose touched so many people’s lives and will be remembered forever fondly in our happiest and most cherished memories.
Visitation will be Monday, October 5th from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at McMahon, Lyon and Hartnett Funeral Home White Plains, NY. Mass will be held Tuesday, October 6th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s of Padua Church, West Harrison, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made “In Memory of Rose Selino” to the Alzheimer’s Association https://act.alz.org/
