Obituary

Obituary for Ruby Dozier (Minick)

Ruby Vernell (nee Minick) Dozier, of White Plains, (Greenburgh) New York, died May 18, 2020. She was 100 years old. Ruby was born January 29, 1920 in South Carolina to John and Ella (nee Miles) Minick. On January 30, 1949 Ruby married Henry R. Dozier in Saluda County, S.C. He predeceased her on October 4, 1969.
Ruby loved children! The more the merrier. She devoted her life to her children and her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook who had signature dishes everyone expected to see on the table during their visit. If she knew you were coming, she would make your favorite dishes.
She also loved her siblings and doted on them! Being the oldest earned her much respect and love. They were always happy to see her. She was a spiritual woman who believe you were responsible for “All God’s Children” and would buy food for the homeless she encountered. She always said, “You never know how God will come to you to see how you treated ALL his children”. Ruby taught and encourage her children to be generous to those who were less fortunate.
The oldest living relative of the Dozier – Minick family, Ruby is survived by her 5 children; Jacqueline (dozier) Bowman and husband Steven of Macedonia, OH, Gregory Dozier and wife Doreen of White Plains, NY, Frances Robin Dozier of Blythewood, SC, Duncan Dozier of White Plains, NY and Patricia (Dozier) Wilson of Baltimore, MD.
Also surviving is 1 brother, Tommy Minick of Florida, 3 sisters; Odessa Andrews of Jersey City, NJ, Geraldine Graham of Jersey City, NJ and Jacqueline Springs of Saluda, SC, 1 sister-in-law Mattie Minick of South Carolina, 6 grandchildren; Sasheen (Bowman) Phillips of Columbus, OH, Tomara (Bowman) Dulaney of Columbus, OH, Jonel Dozier of New York, NY, Michael Wilson of White Plains, NY, Dwayne Wilson of Baltimore, MD, and Michelle Wilson of Baltimore, MD, 13 great-grandchildren throughout New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Maryland; Deandre Wilson, Courtney Wilson, Tyreek Wilson, Dana Wilson, Nevaeh Wilson, Michael Wilson Jr., Michael Noel Wilson, Christian Wilson, Anniyah Wilson, Malik Phillips, Myles Phillips, Waverley Dulaney, and Braven Dulaney, 2 great-great grandchildren; Harmony Wilson and Jules Wilson both of New York, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, ruby is predeceased by 9 brothers; Johnny Minick, James Minick, Claude Minick, Barrett Minick, Thomas Moore, Herbert Minick, Milage Minick, Robert (Jean) Minick, and Lamahr Minick, 2 sisters Elizabeth nee Minick Davis and Essie (nee Minick) Dukes and her granddaughter Nicole Dozier.

SAFELY HOME

I AM HOME IN HEAVEN, DEAR ONES;
ALL’S SO HAPPY, ALL SO BRIGHT!
THERE’S PERFECT JOY AND BEAUTY
IN THIS EVERLASTING LIGHT.

ALL THE PAIN AND GRIEF ARE OVER,
EVERY RESTLESS TOSSING PASSED;
I AM NOW AT PEACE FOREVER,
SAFELY HOME IN HEAVEN AT LAST.
DID YOU WONDER I SO CALMLY
TROD THE VALLEY OF THE SHADE/
OH! BUT JESUS’ LOVE ILLUMINED
EVERY DARK AND FEARFUL GLADE.

AND HE CAME HIMSELF TO MEET ME
ON THAT WAY SO HARD TO TREAD;
AND WITH HESUS’ ARM TO LEAN ON,
COULD I HAVE ONE DOUBT OR DREAD/

THEN YOU MUST NOT GRIEVE SO SORELY,
FOR I LOVE YOU DEARLY STILL;
TRY TO LOOK BEYOND EARTH’S SHADOWS,
PRAY TO TRUST OUR FATHER’S WILL.
THERE IS WORK STILL WAITING FOR YOU,
SO YOU MUST NOT IDLE STAND;
DO YOUR WORK WHILE LIFE REMAINETH-
YOU SHALL REST IN JESUS’ LAND
WHEN THAT WORK IS ALL COMPLETED,
HE WILL GENTLY CALL YOU HOME;
OH, THE RAPTURE OF THE MEETING!
OH, THE JOY TO SEE YOU COME!
