Obituary

Obituary for Stewart Hanges

Stewart Hanges, a White Plains resident, died August 11, 2020 at the age of 63. He was born April 6, 1957 in Manhattan, New York. His parents were William and Bessie (Polezonis) Hanges.
On September 22, 1985 he married Janice Fay Schaffer in Randolph Township, NJ. Janice passed away on December 25, 2019.
Stewart received a BA in English from City College of N.Y. in 1979.
Stewart worked at the Probation Office of the US District Court for the Southern District of N.Y. in White Plains.
A talented actor and director, Stewart worked with many theater companies throughout the county. He first performed along side his wife Janice in the comedy, “You Can’t Take it With You.” The Hanges were a staple in local community theater. However Stew’s true passion was writing. An award winning playwright, his one act plays were performed by many groups. He enjoyed creating characters and devising scenarios for them. Stew spent most mornings scribbling down ideas, excited to bring them to fruition.
Stew’s sense of humor, talent and dry wit will be greatly missed by his friends and loving theater family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Stewart’s name can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Amateur or Community Theater of your choice.
