Vincent Lloyd Thompson, of Upper Marlboro, MD, passed away September 26, 2019. He was 97. Mr. Thompson was born on December 26, 1921 in Jamaica, West Indies to Kent Thompson and Beatrice Porteous Johnson.

For 38 years, Mr. Thompson was a graphic printer for Sorg Printing Company in New York City. He retired in 1989. He was classical pianist, church leader, and mentor to many.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his four children: Vincene A. Thompson-Drake of Bronx, NY, Gladys Kay Thompson of Woodbridge, VA, Lisa Thompson of Bronx, NY, and John Thompson of Upper Marlboro, MD. Also surviving are three brothers: Eddie Johnson of Sweden/Jamaica, Alfred Johnson of West Orange, NJ, and Winston Johnson of Jamaica; eight grandchildren: Robert Drake of Windsor Mill, MD, Elisa Drake of Owings Mills, MD, Kyle Thompson of Dale City, VA, Ross Thompson of Oxon Hill, MD, Royse Thompson of Bronx, NY, Jasmine Drake of Upper Marlboro, MD, Paryse Fuller of New Bedford, MA, and Phelina Thompson of Bronx, NY; and four great-grandchildren: Jaylin Reid of Owings Mills, MD, Kaylin Drake of Richmond, VA, Janae Drake of Owings Mills, MD, and Santana Thompson of New Carrollton, MD.

Vincent L. Thompson led an extraordinary life. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, mentor, church leader, supporter and friend to many people. His influence touched numerous lives. He was a man of wry humor and sharp wit polished by his penchant for reading and solving crossword puzzles in the daily newspaper. A committed Christian, his love for music and understanding of its role in Godly worship was central to his over 50 years of dedicated service to the music ministry of the church.

There will be no other like him. His family, extended family and friends love him and will miss him for eternity. Daddy rest well. When he enters heaven's gates, the Lord will say to him, without question, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Outreach Baptist Church 2911 Paulding Avenue Bronx, NY 10469.
